Every denting and painting job at Muller Motors follows a structured process — not because we follow a checklist mechanically, but because every step in the process exists for a specific reason, and skipping or rushing any step produces a result that falls short. Understanding our process helps you understand why a proper body repair takes the time it does, and why cutting corners produces the kind of repair that never quite looks right.
The process begins with a thorough assessment of the damage. We look beyond the obvious — checking the extent of metal deformation beneath any creased surface, identifying whether any adjacent panels or structural components have been affected, and confirming whether the damage can be repaired or whether panel replacement is the more appropriate solution. For collision damage, we also check chassis alignment before any bodywork begins, because no amount of excellent panel work corrects a vehicle that handles incorrectly because the chassis is still bent beneath it.
Panel beating comes next on damaged metal panels. Our panel beaters work methodically — using the appropriate tools to push and pull the metal back to its original shape, working from the outside edges of the deformation inward, checking with a straight edge and by touch after each pass. Good panel work minimises the amount of filler required — and the amount of filler in a repair is one of the clearest indicators of the quality of the work. Properly shaped metal needs very little filler. A rough panel job covered with excessive filler looks fine initially but develops cracking and telegraphing through the paint within months in Abu Dhabi’s thermal cycling conditions.
Surface preparation follows — sanding the repaired area and the surrounding panel to create a clean surface for primer adhesion, cleaning thoroughly to remove all dust, grease, and contamination, and applying the correct primer system for the substrate. For metal panels, we apply etch primer over bare metal followed by filler primer to address any remaining surface irregularities. For plastic components including bumpers, we apply adhesion promoter and flexible primer. All priming is carried out in a clean environment to avoid contamination that causes paint adhesion failures.
Paint mixing and application is carried out in our spray booth — a temperature-controlled, filtered air environment that prevents dust contamination of wet paint and maintains consistent conditions for correct paint flow and application. We mix paint using our computerised colour mixing system to your vehicle’s exact factory colour code, carrying out visual spray-out tests to verify the colour match against your vehicle’s existing panels before committing to the final application. Colour is applied in multiple thin coats to build even coverage without runs or sags.
Clear coat follows the colour coats — again applied in the spray booth in multiple thin coats with correct flash-off time between each application. Clear coat thickness and uniformity directly affects the quality of the final polished surface — too thin and the clear coat cannot be properly polished without cutting through to the colour below; uneven and the polished result shows variation in gloss across the panel.
